Cluttr clears houses in Christchurch by selling what has value rather than dumping everything. Photograph the contents room by room, we price each item and say plainly which ones are not worth listing, and a vetted local reseller collects and sells the rest. You are paid as things sell, instead of paying someone to take it all to the tip.
Why this is such a job
- Every option for clearing a house costs you the value in it, one way or another.
- Call a dump removal firm and you pay by the load to throw out things that were worth hundreds.
- List it yourself and the volume defeats you: a full house is dozens of items, and each one needs photographing, describing, pricing and defending.
- On Trade Me that means a listing per item, a success fee out of every sale, and relisting whatever does not go first time.
- On Marketplace it means weeks of evenings on "is this still available", lowball offers, and buyers who agree a time for a wardrobe and never turn up.
- So most people give up somewhere in the middle, and the difference between what the contents were worth and what they got for them is the price of not having the time.

Questions people ask
- Can you take everything, including the rubbish?
- We sell what has resale value. Items we flag as not worth listing are left with you, so a full clearance may still need a skip or a hard rubbish run for the rest. We would rather say that than quietly cart your things away and charge for it.
- How long does a full house take?
- Scanning a three bedroom house is usually an hour or two spread over a few sittings. Collection is a single visit. Selling takes anywhere from days to a few weeks depending on the item.
- What happens to things that do not sell?
- The reseller keeps working the price down until it moves. Once they have collected an item it is theirs to sell, so an item that lingers is their risk rather than yours.
- Why not just list it all on Trade Me or Facebook Marketplace myself?
- You can, and for a handful of items it is worth it. A whole house is a different job: every item is its own listing, its own photographs and its own run of messages, and Trade Me takes a success fee out of each sale on top. The work does not scale, so people either burn several weeks of evenings on it or quietly bin the long tail. We take the whole lot in one visit and the reseller carries all of that.
- Do you handle rentals and end of tenancy clearances?
- Yes. It is the same process, and the deadline pressure is exactly why it helps to have someone else doing the listing.
